2016 description: 'This program intense trek follows rushing streams, discovers mountain meadows, and traverses lofty peaks across
Philmont’s South and Central Country. You will start your trek with a visit to famous pioneer Kit Carson’s home along the
Santa Fe Trail before camping at Rayado River for the night. Next, hike through Abreu and drink a cool root beer at the
cantina before helping the staff at Carson Meadows with a search and rescue mission that will challenge your crew to work
together. From there, enjoy the hike to Crags through the Notch and be one of the lucky few to sleep at the bottom of
Rayado Canyon. Stellar views of Rayado, Crater, and Lookout Peaks will be seen from the trail on your way to Fish Camp
where you will learn to tie flies and fish just as Waite Phillips enjoyed doing at the intersection of the Agua Fria and Rayado
Creeks. Encounter the Jicarilla at pristine Apache Springs and work on a trail project with the Conservation Department
near Buck Creek. Next, you'll learn how to homestead at Crooked Creek before hiking to Porcupine, which is guaranteed to
be memorable as it is one of Philmont's most beautiful trail camps. Tomahawks, mountain living, and booming .50 caliber
black powder rifles await you at Clear Creek. The hike up Mt. Phillips will be tough, but seeing Wheeler Peak, the Moreno
Valley, and Baldy Mountain is something your crew will never forget. Hike over Comanche Peak to Red Hills and then over
the beautiful highline between Big Red and Bonito Peak. Swing down to Beaubien for roping, branding, a chuckwagon
dinner, and cowboy campfire. Hike Trail Peak on your way to visit the Continental Tie and Lumber Company at Crater Lake.
Enjoy the Company Meeting Campfire and rock climbing at Miners Park. Your final challenge… the Tooth of Time!'
