Compare 2015 Trek 7-7 to 2014 Trek 7-8

2015 description: 'This program intense trek follows mountain streams, discovers mountain meadows, and traverses peaks and mesas across Philmont's South Country. Begin your trek by hiking over Lovers Leap and scaling Urraca Mesa. Test your crew skills on the challenge course at Urraca before being entertained to a great evening campfire. Be sure to get plenty of rest and wake up early to watch the sunrise at Inspiration Point. From there, hike west towards Fowler Mesa, Bonito Canyon, and Lookout Meadow. Keep your voices low as you hike into Lookout Meadow and you might see the small herd of elk that frequent the area. Wake up early to watch the sunrise from the top of the meadow and see why they call it Lookout! From there, scale rugged Lookout Peak and view the twists and turns of Rayado Canyon below. Your next destination is where the canyon divides at Fish Camp. Tour Waite Phillips fishing lodge enroute to Beaubien where you will rope, brand, eat a chuckwagon dinner, and be entertained at a cowboy campfire. The next morning, you'll have the great opportunity to work with Philmont's Conservation Department on a stream restoration or trail maintenance project. From there, enjoy the cool crisp hike down beautiful North Fork Urraca Creek before camping for the night. Be sure to get plenty of rest as your last challenge awaits… the Tooth of Time! Climb the Tooth and hike into Base Camp via the Tooth Ridge Trail as you reflect on your successful journey.'

2014 description: 'This Valle Vidal itinerary will enable your crew to see an incredible assortment of wildlife, enormous grass filled vegas, gorgeous ponderosa pine stands, and rugged mountains to the north of Philmont. Start your trek by hiking up Horse Canyon to Horse Canyon Camp. Next, take part in thought provoking initiative games and challenge course events that will encourage your crew to work together at Dan Beard. Your crew will then have the opportunity to work on your navigation skills as you locate Beatty Lakes. Enjoy the view of Little Costilla and continue north to Ring Place on the following day as you bushwhack through tall ponderosa pine stands and enormous meadows. Side hike to Whiteman Vega to ride some of northern New Mexico's best mountain biking trails and work with the Philmont Conservation Department on a new bike trail! Return to Ring Place for folk weather forecasting and astronomy, where the night skies are great because there is no light for miles! Wake up early and head south until you hear the pinging of hammers driving rail spikes echo off the canyon walls at Metcalf Station. Railroading, morse code, and blacksmithing will come to life before your crew experiences a great campfire. Be sure to check out the Ancestral Puebloan petroglyphs from 1300 CE before exploring Chase Canyon and the historic Chase Ranch. Next stop… Base Camp!'
