Begin your trek by hiking from the Zastrow Turnaround to Rayado River Camp for the night. Enjoy the rushing waters of the Rayado before stopping by Abreu and hiking up to Carson Meadows, where the staff has a search and rescue mission for you. Hike the beautiful Rayado Canyon to Fish Camp for fly tying, fishing, and a tour of Waite Phillips' fishing lodge. At Beaubien, your crew will ride horses, eat a chuckwagon dinner, and enjoy the cowboy campfire. The next morning you can complete your conservation project before heading into the North Fork Urraca Canyon. Learn to blacksmith and shoot rifles before following the stream down to your camp. Be sure to wake up early and tackle the final challenge… Shaefers Peak and The Tooth of Time!' |
| 2017 description: 'This great South Country Trek will enable your crew to hike through some of the most pristine country the southwest has to
offer! Begin your trek by hiking over Lovers Leap on your way to Miners Park for the night. Hone your climbing skills and
traverse around the climbing wall before putting those skills to the test on some of Philmont's most difficult rock routes.
Rappel to safety after your climb and prepare for the beautiful hike over Fowler Mesa to Lower Bonito Camp for the night. Be
sure to walk down to the edge of Bonito Canyon during the evening to see if you can spot the small elk herd that frequents the
area. Continue to Beaubien for roping and branding before hiking to Crooked Creek for the night. Learn to homestead and see
if you could have survived by living off the land. You will then have the opportunity to work with Philmont's Conservation
Department on a new trail construction project before hiking to Apache Springs. Learn the ways of the Jicarilla Apache and
test your archery skills on 3-dimensional wildlife archery targets. Hike across Turkey Creek and camp at beautiful Bear Canyon
Camp. Tour Waite Phillips fishing lodge at Fish Camp and enjoy stellar views of Lookout and Crater Peak while hiking down
Rayado Canyon. Continue on to Carson Meadows and help the staff with an imporant search and rescue mission that will
require your crew to work together. Hike to Abreu to enjoy a cool root beer before completing your trek at the Zastrow
Turnaround. Next stop… Base Camp!' |
